Systems of Equations Using the Comics

Foxtrot, by Bill Amend, is one of my favorite comic strips to check on Sunday mornings because he will often times include math situations that involve middle school and high school age kids, and his humor appeals to my students. Here is a copy of  one of his comics that I used in my algebra class today when we were talking about solving systems of equations. Students were to prove the solution that the character Paige in the cartoon came up with by solving it with graphing, substitution, or elimination. It was fun to discuss in class how people often think they are not good at math, when in reality they are good at math. It's all about your individual learning style and learning how to use what you're good at.
